On Saturday March 29th another successful Matariki Regatta was held at the PBBC. Twenty four boats sailed around from Lyttleton and 4 Young 88’s made it over from Akaroa. The wind was predicted to be very light for the race but the predictions proved wrong and the first boat crossed the line soon after 2pm. All the racing yachts finished within 14 minutes of each other which was a first for Matariki. There were many happy faces due to the good breeze and it was an awesome sight seeing all the boats coming down the bay. A sausage sizzle kick started the onshore activities and the crew from All Fired Up provided the entertainment with an assortment of games that were hotly contested by crews and landlubbers. A huge effort from the PBBC team made sure everyone was fed and watered during the night and again at breakfast time on Sunday as well as being safely taxied to and fro from their boats. Many thanks go to NPCL for their committed support towards this annual regatta and to the PBBC members who gave a helping hand to make it run smoothly and successfully 🙂
Oh what a night!! Despite the threat of heavy rain for the evening many turned out to trip the light fantastic on the sprung floor of the Pigeon Bay Community Hall. All ages were represented and had a great time mingling together on and off the dance floor. The DJ played many old hits from some classic vinyls. It was obvious that many op shops had been raided and everyone had gotten into the spirit of the night. The supper was to die for and I doubt anyone went home hungry afterwards. Many thanks must go to Brenda Graham for her superb organisation of the Op Shop Ball. She had an idea and ran with it right to the end and it was well worth the effort. Enjoy the photos.
