OP Shop Ball Poster

How about that?  The PBBC certainly hopes you can make it.  Never been to an op shop?  Well now is your chance to do so. And guess what?  The clothes are real cheap in those shops so you can probably afford a few outfits and change often during the night.  Trust me stranger things have happened in that hall over the years! Tickets are limited so you had better get hold of Brenda real fast.  And she is one quick chick so don’t dilly dally or you will miss out on what could be (most probably will be) the biggest night of the year for the bay.

In case you haven’t realised this ball coincides with Life Member’s Day.  It’s a double whammy!  Sail and play in one day!  Who could ask for anything more?

Yes thanks to our wonderful IT lady we are up and running again.  Many bouquets of thankyous to Thysje.

So what have we been up?  Well take a look at some of these photos from Opening Day, 29th October, 2013.

It was a fairly windy day. It was wonderful to see the big boats from over yonder venture out to our bay.

Joy was to present the Ian Smith Trophy to Thysje Arthur for all the work she has done for the club and in particular putting together the 50th Anniversary book called “Pigeon Bay Boating Club, The First 50 Years”.  However Thysje couldn’t make it so Tom accepted on her behalf.

The entertainment begins with Peter stealing the last penny out of our pockets at the Mystery Bottle Auction.

Day 2 was a different story and everyone managed to get out on the water.

So that was Opening Day.  A bit of a blow out but good fun nevertheless.

Christmas Regatta held over the weekend of 7th/8th December was a much more pleasanter time for sailing and offshore activities.

So there you have it a quick update of what we’ve been up to since you have been away.  Keep looking here regularly say fortnightly or so for news on what’s been happening and what will be happening as PBBC continues to have “Fun in the Bay” for 2014.

Although not much has been seen from the public side of the site, under the hood some big changes have been made. The site has been made more secure and some enhancements have been put in place. With the help of our hosting service provider Kiwihosting Ltd.

We are now using Cloud Flare for added security. If you’re not sure what it is, google it and you’ll learn how it works. Since this became active in mid-December it has worked very well. I can monitor the site’s activity very well by logging in to my Cloud Flare account and checking the PBBC site’s Analytics.

You may be interested to know that on the 26th December we had some major hacker attempts (CoudFlare calls them Threats)  to compromise the site. Why would they? They are not after PBBC data, they are after the use of the site to gain access to other sites and/or send spam email. Effectively dealt with!

With the bustle of Christmas and the silly season over, I hope to be able to spend more time on the public side of the site.

Thank you for your patience…
